Meet the individual turtles we've encountered and named
From first sightings to ongoing tracking – every turtle tells a conservation story
Tracking Individual Turtles Across the Andaman Sea
Every turtle encounter tells a story. Through our partnership with Andaman Turtle Watch, we’ve developed comprehensive individual profiles for sea turtles across the Andaman Sea region. Each profile represents hours of careful observation, precise photography, and meticulous data collection – transforming chance encounters into valuable scientific records.
Our database captures the unique personality of each turtle we meet. From first sightings to behavioural patterns, preferred dive sites to physical characteristics, these detailed records paint intimate portraits of individual animals whilst contributing to broader conservation research. The facial scale patterns that identify each turtle are as unique as human fingerprints, allowing us to track the same individuals across multiple encounters and dive sites.
Browse through our growing collection of turtle profiles below. Each entry represents not just a diving encounter, but a contribution to marine science and turtle conservation in Southeast Asia. These records help researchers understand turtle movements, site fidelity, population health, and habitat use – critical data for protecting these ancient mariners for future generations.
Proud Partners in Sea Turtle Conservation
This turtley awesome data is provided by Andaman Turtle Watch (ATW).
Since October 2024, ATW has partnered with Big Blue Diving Khao Lak – the leading contributor of sea turtle sightings in the Andaman Sea. Big Blue’s team routinely photographs and reports turtles, playing a vital role in helping ATW monitor and protect them.
