About This Photo

When this photo of Gracie was taken, we knew we had captured something truly special. The image shows her head, carapace, and flipper – all the key features used in the turtle identification process. Each photo we submit to Andaman Turtle Watch’s database becomes part of a larger puzzle, and this one has proven invaluable. It’s been cross-referenced with countless other sightings, helping to confirm identities and track movements. The information gathered from just this single shot has been priceless for their research.

Gracie also holds a special place in our story. She was the very first turtle to be officially named through our new collaboration with Andaman Turtle Watch. Her name was chosen in honour of Alex’s niece, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the work we’re doing.

As Andaman Turtle Watch’s database continues to grow, so too does the collective understanding of turtle populations in our national parks. Every turtle adds a chapter to the story, and together, we’re proud to be helping scientists and conservationists uncover the bigger picture of the Andaman Sea’s fragile ecosystem.
