About This Photo
Anakin is a striking adult male green sea turtle regularly spotted around Similan Island 7. With his impressive size and signature white neck marking, he’s become a familiar (and beloved!) face in the Andaman Turtle Watch (ATW) database. First seen in 2018 and most recently in 2025, Anakin has been recorded 12 times – all in the Similan Islands. Unfortunately, he’s often observed lingering near tourist boats, being fed, and swimming in shallow waters – behaviours that could pose serious risks to his health. His story helps us better understand the impact of tourism and the importance of responsible marine wildlife practices.
