About This Photo

Levi has been spotted six times around the north of Similan Island 9, with four sightings recorded by the Big Blue team. First identified by Will Nesset, Levi was lovingly named after his best friend, Levi Merry, from Minneapolis – a reminder that every turtle in the Andaman Turtle Watch database has a story that connects people and oceans.

At first, Levi was almost mistaken for another turtle identified by Big Blue, Gracie, as hawksbills often have very similar facial scale patterns. This is why photo ID takes patience and care – but it’s also how we can track and protect turtles over time.

With Andaman Turtle Watch and Big Blue Diving Khao Lak, every sighting matters. The more citizen scientists involved, the more data we can turn into protection for sea turtles across the Andaman Sea and beyond.
