About This Photo
Lenore is a subadult hawksbill, named by Big Blue’s Ciara Hunt after her partner Will’s nieces back in the States – a lovely way to connect a family across oceans and inspire the next generation of turtle heroes. Lenore has been reported three times in the Andaman Turtle Watch database, with all sightings recorded around the dive sites to the north of Similan Island 9 – one of the key turtle hotspots identified during the first season of monitoring.
In both encounters reported by the Big Blue team, Lenore was observed feeding among the reef. In one particularly memorable moment, she confidently swam up to the divers’ cameras, showing off the natural curiosity turtles are known for – or perhaps simply making sure we captured her best side.
Lenore is one of 76 unique sea turtles now catalogued by Andaman Turtle Watch. Each new encounter helps us piece together their stories, and we can’t wait to uncover more underwater secrets in the seasons to come.
