Marble Majesty

Frankie Gard-Storry captured this magnificent Brown-Marbled Grouper at Richelieu Rock during a Similan liveaboard expedition, one of Thailand’s premier locations for encountering these impressive predators. The photograph perfectly showcases the grouper’s distinctive spotted pattern and robust build as it surveys its territory from a coral-encrusted perch. Richelieu Rock’s pinnacles and rich marine habitat make it one of the best dive sites in the Surin Islands National Park for photographing these charismatic fish, which often station themselves at prominent reef features to survey their hunting grounds. The blue water background and vibrant coral foreground create the perfect frame for this portrait of one of the reef’s top predators.
