Similan Liveaboard Trip BB024
Similan Liveaboard Trip024
Good vibes, dance moves, flat seas, cold beers…
Without succumbing to the curse of ‘jinxing it’ that seems to be the cause of so much outrage on the typical dive boat full of enthusiastic and hopeful divers; the calm waters of high season are finally upon us! Trip 25 was an absolute banger with a wonderful mix of returning and fresh faces.
Day one kicked off with a stunning sunrise over Similan Island 7 followed by some gorgeous diving on a showcase of our favourite sites. West of Eden proved to be the perfect check dive, (including a shark and a turtle!) that set up our guests for a roller coaster of fun swim throughs and exciting currents at Elephant Head Rock. Three Trees put on it’s usual show of coral and schooling fish before a relaxing sunset dive at Aow Khon Gaer.
Christmas Point lived up to its name as it delivered a gorgeous present of not just 1 but 2 rather large Eagle Rays dancing in the shallows above the pinnacle! Cruising north to Koh Bon with the rising tide led us to a smooth drift along the stunning limestone ridge on the West side of the island. Koh Tachai never fails to deliver energetic hunting action from intimidating Tuna and Trevalli. We ended the day with rooftop Gin and tonics, swapping tall tales of sharks and manta rays while the sun set, ending the Similan chapter of the trip.
Typically, Similan stuns with the visibility, leading to a slightly greener warm-up at Aow Pakkad before the main event… This was not the case when the sun rose over Surin national park and we saw right to the bottom of the bay. A seriously memorable, gentle drift along Aow Pakkad with some turtle action set us up for the crew’s (Ric’s…) favourite breakfast, mama noodle soup!
Keeping that momentum going, Richelieu turned it up a notch with mind blowing schooling displays. The following 2 dives didn’t fail to disappoint, some notable macro goodies popped their little heads out for us including a tiger-tail seahorse, 2 ghost pipefish and even the incredibly elusive harlequin shrimps!
After an overnight cruise back down to Koh Bon we arrive at the final dives of the trip. There’s not much better than a big, badass dive on the pinnacle to round off an excellent trip full of laughs, silly dances, exciting finds and new friends.
We hope you enjoyed this trip as much as we did and sincerely hope to see you all again soon, happy bubbles and safe diving,
Sam and the Blue Dolphin Crew
